The First Step...

HEARTS WIDE OPEN
by Barbara Tracy

"Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step." Martin Luther King, Jr.
Part 2

Well, that was the beginning of my relationship with God but here is the REST OF THE STORY…

When I went to the Employment Agency to apply for a job I was given a typing test and I noticed after the paperwork was filled out that of the three typewriters available only one was familiar and the same type that I had used in previous work locations. So, I prayed to God again, “PLEASE allow me to type on the middle one, I’ve had so much experience that I just know I could do my very best on that one.”

Soon the supervisor of the agency told me where to sit and it was NOT to in front of the typewriter that I had wanted to use, however, I sat down and she set the clock to time my work and I started to type, as she left the area. After few minutes the typewrite just STOPPED, no matter what I did, it wouldn’t work. I contacted her and she fiddled with it and then had me sit down in front of the one which I’d had experience. I PASSED WITH FLYING COLORS!

As I walked out the door the supervisor was in front of the first typewriter I had tried out and she said, “We just had this worked on I wonder what is wrong with it?” and it started to work just fine…

And on the lighter side...

The Fabric of Our Lives

A Unitarian Universalist walks into a fabric store and asks the clerk for nine yards of material. The clerk asks, "What are you going to make?" The UU says, "I'm making a nightgown for myself as a present for my husband."

The clerk says, "But nine yards is way too much material for a nightgown."

"I know, but my husband would rather seek than find!"

The First Step (Part 1)

Hearts Wide Open
by Barbara Tracy

"Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step." ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

When I came to a place in my life where there was nothing left for me to do, the money was mostly gone, the marriage was gone and it looked like my success in life was also gone, I prayed just four words God, Please Help Me…

I turned my whole life over to that power because it seemed to me that I HAD no power. Slowly I was led to what had to happen. I had been out of the workforce for five years, so I worked for a temporary agency to gain back and improve on my office skills. Then I prayed for a “real job”. Rather than do a lot of worrying, I prayed.

The real job eventually materialized – better than I had ever dreamed of and my life started getting better and better. It’s no telling how it may have ended up if I had depended only upon myself to change my life! Need help in your life? Remember those four words, GOD, PLEASE HELP ME…

(To be continued...)

And on the lighter side...

A middle aged woman has a heart attack and is taken to the hospital. While on the operating table she has a near-death experience. During that experience she sees her guardian angel and asks if this is her time. The angel says no and explains that she has another 30-40 years to live.Upon her recovery she decides to just stay in the hospital for a few more days and have a facelift, liposuction and a tummy tuck. She even has someone come in and change her hair color. She figures since she's got another 30 or 40 years she might as well make the most of it. She walks out the hospital after the last operation and is killed by an ambulance speeding up to the hospital.

How We React...

HEARTS WIDE OPEN
by Barbara Tracy

Remember –

“What other people do or say is their stuff; how we react is our stuff.”

Well, I can tell you it took me a very long, long, time to finally understand and learn how to NOT react to other people’s “stuff”. Reacting is for children. Smiling and remembering that what ever the person said or did is all about them is indeed for adults to remember and remember and remember…

When I finally started to train myself to THINK instead of react; everything changed! Indeed, my whole life changed…the anger and reaction to about any given situation disappeared as I remembered to allow behavior of others to be. JUST TO BE… it’s not about you at all and the best way to approach it is to just smile and either bite your tongue or bless them. I prefer to bless them because my tongue has WAY too many scars…

I guarantee you that this is one of the hardest things you will ever do and conquer; however, it is one of the best ways to give yourself peace of mind and the tranquility you will enjoy

And on the lighter side...

A Birthday Wish

Little Sonia was shouting her prayers. "Please God send me a new doll for my birthday."

Her mother, overhearing this, said, "Don't shout dear, God isn't deaf."

"No, but Grandma is, and she's in the next room," Sonia replied.
