Dear Hearts,
Don’t we all want to experience a joyful day? Let’s remember though that joy isn’t something we shop for. Often we think that if we bought or owned this or that, we’d find joy. What we might experience is happiness, and we are all wise enough to know that happiness is fleeting. While we can’t buy joy, we can access it… we can bring it forth. Joy is with us forever because joy is a quality of God.
We might even feel guilty about feeling joyful. We see sorrow around us and might wonder who are we to feel joyful? Let’s release those thoughts now…remembering that joy is not about circumstances…whether our circumstances are good or bad.
Feeling joyful is about our connection to God. It’s about feeling close to a God so magnanimous that God’s promise to us is, “I will never leave you or forsake you. Lo, I am with you always.”
Joy can be found in many ways…. by praying, spending time in the powerful silence of meditation, living our life in gratitude, listening to beautiful music that stirs our soul, reading something inspirational that uplifts our heart, finding community with others, doing a kind deed for another (with no expectation of anything in return), spending time with children (ours and others), walking in nature, going to the beach and seeing the force and the majesty of the water, etc. All of these things help us to unleash the joy within us.
Joy is part of the fabric of who we are and when we experience joy, we experience God.
