Pledge of Allegiance
Dear Hearts,
On July 4, 1776, America claimed independence from Britain and a democracy was born. How fortunate many of us are are to live in an independent nation that allows us the freedom to choose.
As we celebrate and think about freedom today, let’s take a moment and examine our lives. Do we feel truly free and liberated?
If not, the only one thing preventing us from experiencing freedom is our old thought patterns and behaviors. On this July 4, 2010, are we willing to issue our own Declaration of Independence? Thereby doing whatever is necessary to free ourselves from the thoughts that bind us?
There’s a wonderful story of the farmer who finds an egg assuming it’s a chicken egg. He places the egg in the chicken coup. When the egg hatches, it’s not a chicken at all…it’s an eagle. However, the eagle grows up thinking its a chicken and assumes the mannerisms of a chicken.
One day an old eagle flies down and tells the young eagle that its not a chicken at all. It is a great and mighty bird…the most magnificent of all birds. But the young eagle has a hard time believing it because its so used to thinking of itself as a chicken.
Today, let’s remember we are children of a mighty God, fortunate enough to live in a country that allows us the freedom of choice. We are all eagles with the capability and the freedom to soar as high as we choose, free and brave.
With love and blessings,
Rev. Barbara
