“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is an attribute of the strong.”
Mohandes K. Ghandi

Dear Hearts,

Why in the world would we want to forgive someone who has injured us in some grievous fashion? Have we ever thought that forgiveness is really not about the other person – that forgiving another is really about us? Anger holds us hostage to the very person we've chosen not to forgive and keeps us tied to that individual. Most of all, living in a state of anger blocks us from moving ahead in our other relationships. It is always we who gain from forgiveness.

Our primary purpose on this earth is to love, so when we're holding a grudge or keeping our anger alive through non-forgiveness. we're out of alignment with the fundamental purpose of our life’s journey…thus blocking the good that is inherently ours such as peace, joy, harmony, compassion and love.

Today, who might we forgive, knowing it no longer has anything to do with another person and what they have or haven't done or said? Forgiveness keeps us moving forward on the ladder of our life unencumbered ~ forgiveness sets us free.

With love and blessings,

Rev. Barbara

“Life isn’t a dress rehearsal”
Anonymous

Dear Hearts,

In Thorton Wilder’s play “Our Town”, Emily the young heroine, has died in childbirth. However, she is granted her wish to be able to visit her former life and have one more “ordinary, unimportant” day.

It is only when Emily returns for her one day that she truly begins to see that there is no such thing as an “ordinary, unimportant” day. She sees that each day of life is beautiful, unique and irreplaceable. She sees the beauty of her mother's flowers, smells the food and coffee, hears the clock ticking, she appreciates what in her everyday life she was too busy to see and simply took for granted.

This isn’t a rehearsal for our lives...our lives are the real deal! What if today was our last day on earth? Would we stay late at the office…again or cut our loved ones off in mid-sentence because we’re too busy too listen? Would we be so absorbed in our own thoughts that we’d walk around with our head down missing the beauty that God has placed all around us?

Life is beckoning us to LIVE IT FULLY. What are our priorities this year? As the saying goes “Our life is God’s gift to us. What we do with it is our gift to God”. Let’s make our priorities to love well, to laugh often and to thank God at every chance we have. On our death bed we don’t want to have regrets.

Thursday’s affirmation:

Today, I promise to take time to appreciate my life, to hold my head high and smell the roses. I accept the gift of today for me and mine.

With love and blessings,

Rev. Barbara

"More things are wrought be prayer than this world dreams of."
~Alfred Lord Tennyson

Dear Hearts,

Do we still equate prayer with getting down on our knees morning and night? That certainly is a one way to pray, but prayer takes so many forms. Often, people say, "I don't pray enough". But the truth of the matter is...we pray and have the opportunity to pray far more than we know.

From the moment we open our eyes, simply being grateful for the coming day is a prayer. Every word of encouragement is a prayer, every uplifting thought of others and ourselves is a prayer, every kind word is a prayer. Every time we do our best (no matter what our best looks like that particular day), we have uttered a prayer.

When we live our lives, knowing that our thoughts, words and actions are the prayers, we get to be a special blessing to life...we get to neutralize negativity and we get to be harbingers of peace, love and joy.

Today, how many times will we bless ourselves, others, our place of business, our homes, our country, our environment, by the prayers we send forth through our thoughts, words and actions?

With love and blessings,

Rev. Barbara
