Dear Hearts,

The topic of yesterday’s Oprah Show was American Schools in Crisis. It was frightening to think that the education of our youth is in such a sad state. Many young people were interviewed who felt that somehow the education system had let them down…through no fault of their own. No matter what country we’re from all of our children deserve a good education.

We may think to ourselves, “So what can I do about it?”. Well, each one of us can do something about it. We can become activists by becoming involved in our local communities to see how we can help with this frightening situation. We can be very
informed before casting our vote and make certain that we vote for candidates who are willing to step forward and do something about bettering the education of our youth.

One third of our high school students drop out before graduation. Something must be done. It’s so easy to look outside of ourselves and wonder what others are going to do. However, this problem isn’t about others, it’s about us…this is everyone’s problem whether we have children or not.

America is the land of the free and the home of the brave. Our forefathers fought so that our children could go to public schools and receive a good education so that America can continue her place at the cutting edge of science, math, social studies, etc.

Let’s ask ourselves, “Am I willing to stand up and do something about this problem”?
Because if we don’t stand for something we fall for anything…and our youth deserve so much more from us.
